NORMAL, Ill. – The
U.S. Senate confirmed Leland (Lee) A. Strom for the Farm
Credit Administration (FCA) Board. A former board member of
1st Farm Credit Services, Strom completed confirmation
hearings with the Senate Agriculture Committee, and was
sworn in last week.
"We are proud the
President and the Senate are drawing on innovative and
experienced people like Lee Strom to lead the way in
agriculture," said 1st Farm Credit Services President/CEO
Gary Ash. In compliance with the FCA, Strom has resigned his
post on the 1st Farm Credit Services board.
The
FCA Board is an independent agency in the executive
branch of the U.S. government. The duties of the
three-person board helps regulate the Farm Credit System,
which is a nationwide financial cooperative lending to
agriculture and rural America.
Strom, who lives
in Elgin, Ill., is owner of a corn and soybean farm in
northern Illinois. He has served on the 1st Farm Credit
Board of Directors since 1981. "I am very honored to be
considered for this role," said Strom. "I hope to be
actively involved as a member of the FCA Board and offer my
input on issues important to agriculture and rural America."
According to the
Farm Credit Council, Strom’s term on the FCA will run until
October of 2012. He will replace current FCA Board Member
Doug Flory, whose term expires this year. For more
